Adoption
I was born "Baby Girl Nelson", May 19th in Spokane, WA and then adopted at
five weeks old and given the name Kurin N. Good. At the age of eighteen, thanks
to the organization
Washington
Adoption Reunion Movement, I was fortunate enough to locate my birth
family. Since that time, I have stayed in contact with one of my
sisters. Recently, my birth mother put some serious friction between
myself and my birth siblings, causing us to put our relationship on
hold. Adoption can be a wonderful thing for a child, but if your not
open and honest about it, it can be very painful.
Legacy
of an Adopted Child
Once there were two women
Who never knew each other
One you do not remember
The other you call Mother.
Two different lives,
Shaped to make you one.
One became your guiding star
The other became your sun.
The first one gave you life
And the second taught you to live it.
The first one gave you a need for love
The second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality,
The other gave you a name.
One gave you a talent
The other gave you aim.
One gave you emotions,
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile,
The other dried your tears.
One sought for you a home
That she could not provide
The other prayed for a child
And her hopes were not denied.
And now you ask me,
Through your tears
The age-old question,
Unanswered through the years.
Heredity or environment
Which are you the product of?
Neither, my friend, neither.
Just two different kinds of Love.
This Poem has special meaning to all adopted families.

An Adoptee's Plea
They took away the children,
And they took away their names,
And they gave them to new parents,
To hide the shame.
They said none of this would matter,
Once it was covered up,
But now we are here to tell you
That we have had enough.
We need to know our histories -
Our own identities.
It's not enough to tell us
We're just adoptees.
We need to know our race;
Our culture; some medical history.
As well as that, we'd like to know
How we came to be.
I cannot tell you what it's like,
The frustration and the pain;
Words cannot describe it;
They would only be in vain.
Just try to understand what we are asking for;
A vital piece of our own selves
To fill the void -
To heal the soul.

Computers Our dream is to someday be richer and
smarter than ol' Mr. Gates. Now that Brian finally has his own
computer, the world will never be the same. Although, he still has a lot to
learn, Kurin is more than happy to teach him.
Crafts
The kids, and mom, enjoy doing all kinds of crafts, from drawing, making and
creating with play dough, to making frozen ice cream in a bag. The kids
especially love to paint. We just found a new paint kit that is lots
of fun as well as educational!
Genealogy (Kurin)
On my father's side of the
family, we have had a family reunion every year for the past 30 years. I
have attended all but one reunion. After attending so many reunions, I
realized there is still a lot I do not know about my family history. So, I
decided to start a genealogical research. I eventually completed most of my
research, which enabled me to produce a family history book, including
pictures. Since doing this, I decided to research and make a book for my
mother's side of the family. Her side is a lot vaster than my fathers, so it
took quite a bit longer. In fact, there are still more family members to add
to the book. Hopefully someday, it will be complete. For more
